Gorgeous marine research facility tasked with studying tsunamis
In 2004, an undersea earthquake in the Indian Ocean created a devastating tsunami that killed hundreds of thousands across Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand. In something of a response, an international design competition was held for a tsunami research center in Bali. Here's what it could look like.
Solus4, the studio behind the design, made it to not only evoke a sense of its purpose — the study of waves — but its alluring, fluid shape is also supposed to fit in with the tourist-heavy nature of Bali as the center itself is an attraction.
So, you can see for yourself that it's beautiful, but is it practical? Luckily, it seems so: not only will it contain labs, libraries and an auditorium to present research, but it also has dorm space for scientists so that they can study at the facility constantly rather than having to make the trip back.
See more of Solus4's facility in the gallery below, including how it'd look resting 500 feet off of Bali's coast.
