Vista? What's a Vista? Microsoft proves it still knows a thing or two about desktop operating systems with Windows 7 selling more than 240 million licenses in its first year.

Long story short, Microsoft says 17.1% of all PCs now run Windows 7. Of all new PCs shipped today, 93% include Windows 7 compared with 70% that shipped with Vista after the same one-year period on the market.

A survey done by security-software experts Symantec listed several reasons that influenced consumers toward Windows 7: increased reliability, increased performance and better end-user experience.

Microsoft should be very proud of itself. Windows 7 is a great product. Here's to hoping all that creative energy will help Windows Phone 7 become just as successful.

Honestly, I have to agree that Windows 7 was a step up above Vista; however, with that said, they obviously used Vista as a stepping stone.
