Nintendo hints Wii successor will go an entirely new direction
Not too long ago I said that we're looking at the end of the Wii era, and that we should start expecting something new from Nintendo sooner than later. Well, while it may not be soon, the company is hinting that we definitely shouldn't expect to see more of the same.
The biggest hints of change come from Yoshio Sakamoto, one of the co-creators of Nintendo's long-running Metroid series. "At Nintendo we always have the obligation to surprise users with a new game console," he said, which the company did when it released the Wii with its revolutionary motion controls in 2006. Now, at the end of 2010, Microsoft and Sony are only just catching up.
"We have never done what others have," Sakamoto continued. "We prefer to create something new that catches attention, and I think this will continue this time as well. Surely the new Nintendo machine will leave you all with your mouth open."
The company currently has plans to release a 3D version of its popular DS handheld, the glasses-free 3DS. Other than that, rumor has it that we could also be seeing an updated Wii sometime in the near future.
With the Wii, Nintendo brought a new way to play games, though the system fell behind quickly in terms of its graphical presentation. Here's hoping that whatever Nintendo has in the works will bring the company fully into the next generation in every way.

Well, to increase its graphics performance against the rest of the consoles, they would have to increase their price from $200 to $300 with the most of the competition. At this point, you would wonder, "do I want a recreational console, or a more well-rounded entertainment experience?"

Still better then paying around $1000 for a PC. But honestly the appeal of consoles is not in the graphics or cost but in the games and methods of playing them. A keyboard and mouse is great but sometimes it doesn't apply to well. Sure the PC has controllers but most of them are garbage.

PCs have longer longevity, and backwards compatibility for older games (which would otherwise be on a new gen console), but I don't really mind using the keyboard and mice for everything as long as it works fine. There of course are those niche areas for where those extra controllers, like joysticks, would help and better the experience, but those are rather rare since most games are designed for the keyboard and mouse.

Not racing games or fighting games. With FPS its a matter of preference. But the one advantage PC's have over consoles is in strategy games.

Well, I mean stuff that you actually need another peripheral device; racing games and fightings games you can still play with the keyboard and mouse, it's just not as good (though of course you can purchase high-end equipment if you want the better experience).
Strategy games is a definite--you cannot have a good experience with an RTS on the console instead of on the PC. They always try to develop good RTS games for it, and while they are valiant efforts, they always fall to the PC reviews because versatile controls are always needed, and consoles aren't always capable of handling too massive of battles and simulations--games like these don't scale very well on the console.

You pretty much just reiterated what I said.
